If you have spent any time at all researching blenders, then you have definitely came across the two top blender manufacturers. These two companies are of course, Blendtec and Vitamix. Let’s jump into the background of the Blendtec Company and details of their design, and you will know all about Blendtec Blenders and why this company is such a strong competitor in the blending world.
We recently dubbed the Blendtec Total Blender with the title of Best Blender for Smoothies due to its affordability, customer service, and of course its ability to blend. Another strong reason that we made this selection was due to the fact of the history of the Blendtec brand and their persistent desire to continue innovating the blending world with new technologies to make their blenders even better.
History of Blendtec
Blendtec was founded in 1975 by Tom Dickson. Tom had a strong background in engineering, entrepreneurship, and inventing. As he is stated, he constantly had a mentality for destruction and invention and always wanted to develop mills and blenders, so that customers could stay at home and have freshly prepared breads and meals with ingredients that they knew the contents of.
To this day, Tom is still inventing and his team of engineers is continually looking for new ways to revolutionize the blending world. So what are some of the blenders that they came up with over the years? These little beauties continue to change with technologies such as quiet blending, self, programmed auto stopping features, innovative safe blade technology, and jars that make the necessity for interaction nonexistent.

We choose the refurbished model because it is one of the most inexpensive performance blenders on the market and it really holds true to the bragging rights Blendtec places on it. If that isn’t enough, its quiet technology makes it the same decibel level of a normal conversation, which ensures that you won’t wake your kids up at 5:30 in the morning as you make a smoothie to run out the door with. This one is also a “go to” blender for coffee shops, smoothie bars, and many other retail food service establishments that want a quiet, durable, and dependable blender, that they can always rely on.
Update: 03/20/2015 – Blendtec has also now introduced a Stealth style blender for home use known as the Blendtec Pro 800. If you would like more information on this powerful, unique blender, check out our full Blendtec Pro 800 review.
Going Beyond Blenders for Commercial Establishments
Developing cutting edge blenders for your countertop simply isn’t enough for Blendtec. Not only do they produce performance blenders that hide away and install inside of your counter-tops, but with innovations such as their new self-serve smoothie machine, it is now possible for even a gas station to offer delicious fresh smoothies on the go with ease.
These little vending machines offer the ability for customers to select what ingredients they wish to create a smoothie with, and then watch as their freshly prepared beverage is created. There’s an impressive technology that’s been developed for this machine, and I personally look forward to seeing just how this will benefit you in your kitchen in the future.
One of the Few U.S. Based Companies Around
Blendtec is one of the few blender companies that still have production facilities as well as customer service in the United States. While that isn’t a big deal to many people, it certainly is to me for the fact that it is securing more U.S. based jobs. If being made in the U.S. is important to you, you can check out some blenders made in the U.S.A.
And to top of all of this off when I call customer service, I often feel as though I’m speaking to a neighbor rather than someone a world away.
Innovative Jar Design Makes Blendtec Tough to Beat
Blendtec makes stellar products in their blender lineup, their biggest contribution is their innovative designs. This definitely shines through in their patented jar designs. One example of this jar design is the WildSide + jar.
The Wildside + jar is designed so that you do not have to use any type of spatula, tamper, or other mediums in order to make certain that all of your ingredients are blended well and that your smoothies or other blended concoctions do not have large chunks of unblended food. Many people often wonder does this technology actually work?
Well, it works well enough that Blendtec’s rival, Vitamix actually tried to duplicate this jar down to its exact measurements. They were successful and sold quite a few of these; however, Blendtec actually sued Vitamix based on patent infringement and won the case as you can see in the video below.
What about their other jars? Well, the other big jar that comes to mind with Blendtec’s innovative designs at making the blending experience as painless as possible, is their Twister Jar. In a nutshell, the Twister Jar allows you to blend dry ingredients as well as make nut butters with ease. With its patented design you are able to continuously stir ingredients back down to the blades by hand with a simple twist of the wrist. Interested in making nut butters?
Innovation doesn’t simply stop with Blendtec’s jar systems. They have also developed an essential component with their patented blade design.
Dull Blades Pose Less Hazards
Blendtec has designed the blade system to be able to handle the massive amounts of power that their motors put out. Not only that, but they took customer safety into mind as these are dull blades that are safe to wash without getting cut.
Their patented blades are designed to be bigger, thicker, and heavier than other blender blades. They’re made from cold forged stainless steel that are designed to be corrosion resistant as you will be using them for many acidic foods. Their patented wingtips are designed to create fewer air pockets in your blender jars so that you are able to get a smooth blend every time.
Does Blendtec Back Their Products Up?
This is perhaps one of the most critical issues to me personally, when I look to buy a new blender. Any company that stands behind their products with a warranty as good as Blendtec’s certainly deserves recognition. While other companies have some pretty impressive warranties Blendtec’s is number one, bar none.
Why is that? Well for starters, it’s an impressive 8 year full coverage warranty on their new blenders and a 7 year full coverage warranty on all of their refurbished models. If you have problems, then they will certainly take care of it. Secondly, this warranty not only covers the blender base, but also any jar that is packaged with their blender. So if your jar cracks, you can be rest assured that you will receive another one without hassle.
What good is a warranty without prime customer service? Well, after personally making numerous calls to Blendtec, I have yet to wait on hold for more than 10 minutes. Typically, I’m able to reach a live representative in less than three minutes. It’s nice to know that if something goes wrong with the investment that I have placed in my Blendtec blender, there will be someone available to back me up so that I don’t have to wait forever in order to be back up and blending again. This holds true more for commercial customers, but I do enjoy having this peace of mind for my home use as well.
The Hype of the Will it Blend Channel
Tom Dickson actually had the innovative idea of creating the Will it Blend Channel. This YouTube channel features clips of Tom using various Blendtec blenders to blend some pretty ridiculous stuff. It certainly is entertaining to watch as he throws everything from Bic lighters, iPhones, rake handles and so much more in some of the Blendtec blenders.
He states that he is “destructively natured” in several of his videos and this certainly holds true if you take the time to watch just a couple of these hilarious Will it Blend sessions. This form of viral marketing has certainly got his product in front of the eyes of millions of viewers worldwide and has helped to set the stage for product awareness for the Blendtec Company over the years.
My Personal Thoughts on the Blendtec Company
First and foremost, I have to respect any company that offers such a powerful warranty backed by such quality customer service. Every interaction that I’ve had with them personally has resulted in me walking away very pleased with the overall experience.
Are Blendtec blenders perfect? This is certainly a resounding no, as every company is prone to mistakes. However, just recently an example of their customer service was proven to me personally when my FourSide jar cracked and I was quickly sent a replacement. This type of customer service was wonderful to experience first hand when many companies would just tell you to throw it away and move on.
Their customer service coupled with quality blenders and products that they promote and create are what is sure to make me a Blendtec customer for many years to come. I know that I have found myself to be a very satisfied customer. Over the years, as I’m sure that you would be to.
