As a nurse, I work a lot of 12 hour shifts and I have to be at work at 6:30 in the morning. With that said, it’s always been an issue for me to make smoothies first thing in the morning on the days that I work as I would wake up my wife and son at 5:30 in the morning. I’m sure that you can imagine how happy they’ve been on the days that it used to happen. In the past, I would make my smoothies days in advance or the night before my next shift and then freeze them or put them in the fridge. Thanks to the Blendtec Pro 800, I no longer have to do this. What have my other experiences been with this blender? That’s what I want to share with all of you in this Blendtec Pro 800 review.
Stealth Really Does Mean Stealth
Okay, I briefly touched on the fact that this thing really is one quiet blender. How quiet is it? Well, let’s put it this way. My kitchen wall is right up against the master bedroom wall in my apartment. If I use my hand coffee grinder in the mornings, I will wake my wife up.
Now thanks to the Blendtec Pro 800, I can make a smoothie in the mornings with ice and frozen fruit and she doesn’t even roll over. When I use it at night to make milkshakes for my son and myself, you can’t hear the blender in the other room at all.
It was actually really funny the first night I had the Blendtec Pro 800 because I made milkshakes and my wife asked my son where he got it and thought I had went across the street and bought them because she didn’t hear the blender at all.
So, aside from truly being a quiet blender, how well does it blend?
Blending Power Meets Functionality
While I’ve always been impressed by the power that Blendtec blenders have, the Blendtec Pro 800 has truly impressed me. With the pre-programmed functions it has as well as the power that the motor offers, this blender really takes hands free blending to a whole new level.
Now, I can add whatever ingredients I want. This thing destroys ice, raspberries (seeds are a problem for most blenders but not this one), frozen fruits, and I’ve even placed a cored apple into it without slicing it up only to see it be completely demolished.
The power of the Blendtec Pro 800 is greatly complimented by the functionality of its’ preset blending cycles. Smoothies, ice cream, frozen drinks, and much more are available in a set it and forget it manner by simply putting in your ingredients, closing the sound barrier cage, pushing a button and walking away.
I don’t have to worry about my ingredients needing pushed down, as this blender speeds up and down on its’ own to ensure that all of the ingredients are blended smoothly without any intervention whatsoever.
Sometimes, This Blender Has Too Much Power!
I know what you’re thinking, “how can a blender have too much power”, right? Well, believe it or not, I’ve found two instances where this was the case.
First, our hand mixer broke one night when my wife was making some gluten free chocolate chip cookies. My solution, slap the ingredients into the Pro 800 and let er rip! Well, even though I used the dough setting on the blender, the chocolate chips got a little too warm and melted into the cookie dough. The result, really tasty “striped cookies” as my son called them.
The second time I found this blender to be a bit too strong was when I was making pancakes. Again, the hand mixer was down and out so I thought I would just add all of the ingredients to the Blendtec. While it literally destroyed the apples that I placed in it, the resulting batter ending up being more of a soup consistency so I had to add some additional gluten free flour after I blended it.
I can truly say that I never expected to encounter a blender that has a little bit too much power sometimes. The good news is that now I know to use the manual speed setting on it in the future when making batter or cookie dough with chocolate chips.
How Easy is The Blendtec Pro 800 to Use?
Truthfully, I felt a little overwhelmed when I first turned this blender on. It has a lot of preset blending cycles that are represented by icons. For example, when I first looked it at I couldn’t figure out what the picture of the carrot and celery was for. After reading the manual, I found out that it was for juicing. Yes, this blender will turn vegetables into juice with ease.
Aside from some quick reading, the Blendtec Pro 800 is really easy to use.
How Hard is the Blendtec Pro 800 to Clean?
Thankfully, this one is VERY easy to clean. All you have to do is put about a cup of water into your carafe, and press the pulse button for about 10 seconds. If that doesn’t do the job, the WildSide + jar that comes with the blender is dishwasher safe.
So, What’s the Downside to the Blendtec Pro 800?
Unfortunately, there is one big downside to the Blendtec Pro 800 blender. Honestly, if you break it down, even its’ downside really isn’t that big of a negative factor. The downside to the Pro 800 is of course, its’ cost.
The Blendtec Pro 800 blender is going to set you back a whopping $999! Before you scream “SAY WHAT!???”, let’s take a brief moment to look at one BIG consideration.
While this blender is almost a grand, it comes with a VERY IMPRESSIVE 10 YEAR FULL WARRANTY! That really shocked me and I didn’t even realize it until I saw the blenders warranty card. Now, if we think about how long the warranty is on blenders that run right around the $100 mark, the price tag on the Blendtec Pro 800 doesn’t sound so bad.
This sad truth is, most $100-$150 blenders only come with a 1 year warranty and most of those aren’t full coverage warranties. On top of that, if you have to utilize those warranties, you are probably going to have to pay shipping costs in order to possibly get your blender serviced. So, a 10 year full coverage warranty really is something that is VERY impressive.
