A friend of mine was kind enough to recently share a delicious summer beverage recipe with me. Below you will find his story as well as the recipe.
Everyone has those favorite recipes that bring back the fondest of memories of time spent with those we care about the most. Every family expresses their compassion and love in their own unique ways. The way that my grandmother has always expressed hers has been in the kitchen.
She has always had a plethora of delicious recipes that she seemed to just add that special touch to. One such recipe that I hold dear to my heart is my grandmother’s summer lemonade slush recipe.
I can remember growing up and helping out on the farm, whether it was tending to cattle, helping in the garden, or mowing the grass. Those hot summer days would often be broken in my grandmother’s kitchen with either a class of freshly brewed iced tea or on days that I felt extremely lucky a glass of my grandmother’s delicious lemonade slush.
Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to obtain the recipe from her recently and I have to admit, it turns out just as I remember more often than not.
This recipe calls for quite a bit of ice so make sure your blender can handle it. If not, check out our top picks for smoothie blenders!
Grandma’s lemonade slush:
- Two lemons halved and squeezed into blender
- One can of frozen Five Alive
- Two packs of sugar free lemonade Kool-Aide
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 5 cups water
- Ice to fill
Start by cutting to fresh lemons in half and squeezing juice into the blender. Add one can of frozen five alive, two packs of sugar free lemonade flavored Kool-Aid, and 5 cups water. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar, and fill blender with ice to suit.
Once you have mixed all of these ingredients together. Pour into a 1 gallon container and added additional ice or water to suit.
This was the recipe he shared with me and after creating it a couple of times I have it down pat. I have to admit it’s a delicious summer treat that really breaks the heat.
I hope that you find this summer treat as tasty as I have and perhaps you can enjoy it on the hot summer days yet to come this year.
