Supercharge It-Making Smoothies With A Kick

Supercharge SmoothiesWhile drinking smoothies in general is very good for your overall health, there are a few secret little superfood ingredients that you can add that will help to supercharge your smoothies and blast your nutrition and health over the top.

What are these secret little superfood ingredients? Keep on reading to find out what they are and why you may be pretty surprised at the health benefits you can gain from just tossing a couple of extra ingredients into your daily smoothie routine.

 Supercharged ingredient #1-Protein powder

Protein powders come in many varieties. They can also be made of many different things. They all have one thing in common however, and that is all protein powders have a strong health benefit behind them.

For starters, they aid with weight loss and making you feel full longer. Protein helps the body to slowly digest food and gives your stomach the message that you are full for a longer period of time. By consuming protein powder with your smoothies in the morning for example, many people often feel full, even at lunchtime and report finding themselves eating a much smaller lunch and not snacking nearly as often throughout the day.

Second, protein powder aids in the development of healthy muscle tissues for active people. One must be cautious though as not to consume too much protein without being active with some type of exercise regimen as protein can also be stored in the body as fat.

So if losing weight and toning up are your main goals of drinking smoothies, or just simply something that you would like to accomplish, then protein powder is certainly one supercharged ingredient that you want in your arsenal.

 Supercharged ingredient #2-Flaxseed

This lovely little seed has been around for centuries. It was cultivated as early as 3000 BC and with good reason as some research actually shows that flaxseed is able to reduce your chances of acquiring heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes.

It’s loaded with fiber in both insoluble and soluble forms which results in a healthy digestive tract and aids in burning off some of that stubborn stomach fat that can be so very hard to get rid of.

We’ve all heard about Omega-3 fatty acids and how healthy they are your heart and cardiovascular health. This is especially true for plant-based Omega-3’s and flaxseed is loaded with them.

Flaxseed is also the highest lignan containing plant food on the planet. They contain 75 to 800 times more than any other plant and have antioxidant qualities that are sure to boost your immune system and disease fight capability.

 Supercharged ingredient #3-Chia Seeds

If you’re old enough to remember the Chia pet commercials from the 90s, then you are already somewhat familiar with Chia seeds. Think of them as being a really powerful little sprout.

These little guys have been around since Myan and Aztec times and hail from Mexico. Ancient cultures believe that they were an energy boosting seed and the word Chia literally translates to strength.

Chia seeds are loaded with plant based Omega-3 fatty acids, which will aid in heart and cardiovascular system health and unlike flaxseed Chia seeds can actually be absorbed in seed form, without being crushed or ground.

Not only that but one recent study has shown that Chia seeds can actually help to lower your bad LDL cholesterol levels while helping boost your good HDL cholesterol levels. Not too shabby for something that we once applied water to just so we could see a green haired Bart Simpson appear.

Chia seeds also have tons of plant-based protein, which will make you feel fuller longer and aid in the development of strong muscle tissues during exercise and workouts.

Recently in mainstream media these little guys have been touted as being the ultimate weight loss aid and are sold as such in health food stores. The downside to this claim though is that there is absolutely no clinical evidence supporting this theory.

With that said, however, research is currently being conducted as this one is a newer supercharged food and its weight loss benefits are still up for debate. The thing is though, with its protein content, omega-3 power, and cholesterol lowering ability, they are certainly still a great supercharged ingredient.
