Recently I unveiled my personal pick for the best blender for smoothies and I have been getting a few questions as to why I chose the Blendtec as the best one. I hope that this post will help to clear up some of the reasons I chose this blender and to answer the question of “what’s the best blender for smoothies?”
It’s All About the Value
First, yes, I understand that there are many cheaper blenders on the market that you could choose from that will do a comparable job for many of the tasks that you will throw at the Blendtec. This is especially true in regards to making smoothies, green smoothies, and blended drinks. Find out the top three blenders for green smoothies by clicking here.
Blenders such as the Ninja product line will do SOME of the same things that the Blendtec will, and many of them such as the Master Prep Pro, will allow you to enter into blending smoothies at a great value price point.
The bottom line is that after you’ve started, if you discover you love it (like me), then you will soon find out that the Ninja simply isn’t designed for heavy daily use. It’s more of a once a week or every day for a week kind of machine. This is why I use Ninja’s occasionally. Nothing against the brand, it works well as a good part time fill in when I don’t have my Blendtec.
When putting this same Blendtec up against the Vitamix, it performs just as well, and often much better (especially since I hate that tamper!) when making smoothies. That isn’t the only reason I selected the Blendtec over the Vitamix though as the best blender for smoothies.
With Vitamix it Came Down to Warranty and Price
For folks just getting started or concerned about the cost (which hey, who isn’t?) the Blendtec is simply a much better value when you take a look in the background. This starts out with the Blendtec warranty vs the Vitamix warranty on their refurbished units.
See, Blendtec backs their refurbished blenders with a full coverage 7-year warranty that also covers your jar. That means you can have peace of mind in regard to your investment being covered. For information about Blendtec Blenders, click here.
On the other hand Vitamix backs their refurbished blenders with a 5-year warranty that can be upgraded to an 8-year warranty for $75. If you couple that with the price difference between Vitamix and Blendtec refurbished units, you can quickly see why the Blendtec came out on top.
What’s the Price Difference?
Well, the cheapest refurbished Vitamix blender is the Certified Reconditioned Two Speed blender. As its name suggests, the two-speed is just that, a blender that does a great job but only has two different selectable speeds available. It is priced at $259.00 and in order to get a Vitamix with multiple speeds you are looking at the Reconditioned Standard blender which is $299.00.
On top of this price, in order to get the 8-year warranty, you’re going to have to shell out another $75.00. This is going to put the grand total for a multi-speed unit at $374.00. Now, granted this does come with the tamper included, which is a good thing.
Now, let’s take a look at the Blendtec pricing. For a multispeed, digital Blendtec Refurbished Total Blender, you’re looking at a price of $279.95. That includes a 7-year warranty on not just the blender but also the jar. So, in short you’re saving a whopping $94.00 on the Blendtec vs the Vitamix.
As stated above, the Blendtec clearly came out as the top candidate for the best blender for smoothies due to the fact that the Blendtec and Vitamix are very comparable, but with almost a $100 price tag difference, that puts the refurbished Blendtec as a shoe in for the gold.
